Sweden 1833-CB 1/2 riksdaler

from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 11425

This specimen was lot 11425 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €145 (about US$151). The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/2 Riksdaler, 1833 - CB. Stockholm Mint. Karl XIV Johan. NGC EF Details--Cleaned. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." The reform of 1830 terminated the 1/6 and 1/3 riksdaler and introduced the 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and half riksdaler. This type was struck 1831-33 and 1836-38 and is not common. Another reform in 1855 would supersede this coin with a two riksdaler riksmynt.

Specifications: 17 g, 0.750 fine silver, 31.5 mm diameter, lettered edge; this specimen 16.95 g.
