Sweden 1783 1-24 riksdaler rev H3029-31788.jpg

This specimen was lot 31788 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Gustaf III 1/24 Riksdaler 1783-OL, MS62 NGC. Nice old-time patina with well-struck features, scarce in mint state." This specimen was offered again as lot 49440 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $288. This denomination was introduced in 1776 to replace the billon four öre last minted in 1771. The larger sixth and third riksdalers must have been a success, as they were struck 1778-89 in large numbers. This denomination was struck 1777-83 only and then not struck again until 1810.

Recorded mintage: 268,000.

Specification: 2.77 g, 0.382 fine silver, 20-21 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM 522.
