Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 76756

This specimen was lot 76756 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "SUDAN. Silver Piefort 5 Pounds, AH 1400/1979. PCGS SPECIMEN-68. An elusive Piefort issue with a bold lustrous beauty and deep violet toning throughout. Supremely impressive and most charming." This silver five pounds accompanied a gold 25 pounds (KM 82) and a gold 50 pounds (KM 83). Patterns exist in gold, aluminum (KM E13) and copper (KM E9, E14, P6, P13).

Recorded mintage: 7,500 + 5,000 proofs + ten piedforts.

Specification: KM 80: 17.5 g, 0.925 fine silver; KM P7: 35 g.
