Sudan 1979 25 pounds

Künker sale 386, lot 5946

This specimen was lot 5946 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,098 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SUDAN, Republik. 25 Pounds 1979. Al-Haram Moschee. 7,56 g Feingold. GOLD. Polierte Platte. (republic of the Sudan, twenty-five pounds of 1979, Al-Haram Mosque. Proof.)"

The SCWC incorrectly dates this to 1980, not 1979 as stated on the obverse. The accompanying fifty pounds (KM 83) is correctly dated therein. Silver and brass patterns exist. A silver five pounds (KM 80) was included.

Recorded mintage: 7,500 plus 5,500 proofs.

Specification: 8.25 g, 0.917 fine gold.
