Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 51338
SB421-51338r.jpg

This specimen was lot 51338 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. Cent, 1900. London Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-62 Brown. A better date for the series, the brown designation is not entirely accurate, as the coloring verges more upon a delightful mix of both red and brown." The type was struck in 1889-1901 after the Straits Settlements were made a separate crown colony and is scarce in nice condition despite the large mintage. It was converted to bronze for the 1884 issue (KM 9a) and given a reeded edge for the 1889 issue (KM 16).

Recorded mintage: 2,914,000, a scarce date.

Specification: bronze, 29 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-16.
