This specimen was part of lot 23180 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "Trio of Copper Cents, 1874H, KM 9, About XF. 1897, KM 16, XF-AU. 1901, KM 16, XF. A scarce grouping." The type was struck in 1872-83 after the Straits Settlements were made a separate crown colony and is scarce in nice condition despite the large mintage. It was converted to bronze for the 1884 issue (KM 9a) and given a reeded edge for the 1889 issue (KM 16).
Recorded mintage: 10,000,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 9.3 g, copper, plain edge.
Catalog reference: KM 9.
