This specimen was lot 3815 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $2,990. The catalog description[1] noted, "St. Thomas & Prince. 100 Dobras, 1985. Mintage of only 50 pieces. On the 10th Anniversary of Independence. Reverse: Map. NGC graded Proof 67 Ultra Cameo." This type was issued in sets with silver and copper-nickel counterparts. Circulating coinage from this impoverished country, which obtained independence from Portugal in 1975, is very scanty.

Recorded mintage: 50 in gold (KM 42b, shown here), 1,000 in silver (KM 42a) and an unknown but likely large number in copper-nickel (KM 42).

Specification: (KM 42b) 47.54 g, 0.917 fine gold, 1.401 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-7; KM-42b.
