Áureo y Calicó sale 345, lot 704

This specimen was lot 704 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €230 (about US$304 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1848. Isabel II. Madrid. CL. 4 reales. Bella. Brillo original. Escasa así. EBC+. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, four reales of 1848, Madrid mint. Handsome, original luster, scarce thus, choice extremely fine.)"

This issue, struck 1837-49 at Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, is common. When production resumed in 1852, it was with a different obverse.

Recorded mintage: 2,955,356.

Specification: 5.97 g, 0.812 fine silver, 23-24 mm diameter, this specimen 5,19 g.
