This specimen was lot 35040 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV 8 Reales 1792 S-CN VF. Seville mint, assayer, CN. Nicely toned with a sharp strike. A very seldom encountered type." This specimen should have sold for more but was likely held back by the obverse scratch. This type is recorded in the SCWC from Seville for 1788-1808. All are scarce compared to the enormous output of the Latin American mints. The bust type was introduced to the Spanish mints in 1772.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: Cayón-13861, KM 432.2, Dav-307.
