This specimen was lot 1186 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "Seville, Spain, gold bust 2 escudos, Charles III, 1776/5CF, PCGS AU50. Bold strike with muted luster, light wear on bust only, bold overdate (scarce), popular date for US collectors." This type was struck in Madrid 1772-85 (KM 417.1) and Seville 1773-79 (KM 417.2) and is not especially rare tho choice specimens are always in demand. Two escudos were struck in metropolitan Spain 1738-1833 in considerable numbers and are quite a bit more common than their counterparts from Latin America, where the two escudos was a rare denomination. Assayer CF is listed for 1768-82.
