Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 215

This specimen was lot 215 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 6,300 € (about US$8,230 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1700. Carlos II. Seville. M. 8 escudos. Obv.: *CAROLVS-II·DEI·GRAT·*. Rev.: HISPANIARVM*REX*1700*. The 7 on the date, straight. Cleaned. Nice. Rare. EBC [extremely fine]." The SCWC lists eight escudos from Seville for Charles II for 1673, 1680-81, 1691 and 1699-1700. Only 1699 and 1700 are milled. Cayón mentions a variety wherein HISPANIARVM is punched over HISPANIAPRVM.
