Áureo y Calicó sale 346, lot 1170

This specimen was lot 1170 in Áureo y Calicó sale 346 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €275 (about US$363 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1643. Felipe IV. (Madrid). B. 1 real. Ceca vertical. Castillos y leones. Leve grieta. Bella. Ex Colección Isabel de Trastámara 25/05/2017, nº 291. Muy rara y más así. EBC-. (kingdom of Spain, Philip IV, one real of 1643, Madrid mint, vertical mintmark, castles and lions. Slightly rough but still handsome. Very rare thus, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Madrid 1643 only. We don't know why this coin is underweight but we suspect it was intentional.

Specification: 3.38 grams, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 2,67 g.
