Sincona sale 20, lot 4226

This specimen was lot 4226 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,300 (about US$1,629 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1 Escudo 1608. Segovia. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (very fine or better.)" This type is recorded for 1607-08. It is machine struck; contemporary Spanish issues from Seville and Madrid were cobs.
