Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 1332

This specimen was lot 1332 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA: George VI, 1936-1952, AR 1/2 crown, 1944, an attractive example, PCGS graded MS62." Southern Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1944 and 1946 only. This example realized over four times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 600,000.

Specification: 14.14 g, 0.500 fine silver, 32.3 mm diameter.
