Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 1330

This specimen was lot 1330 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA: George VI, 1936-1952, AE 1/2 penny, 1944, a superb example, PCGS graded MS65 RB." Southern Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1942-44 and has a low catalog value. This example realized 22 times the catalog value.
