This specimen was lot 58425 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA. Shilling, 1942. London Mint. George VI. PCGS MS-61." Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1939-42 and is not common.
Recorded mintage: 2,100,000, the most common date.
Specification: 5.65 g, 0.925 fine silver, 23.6 mm diameter.
