Sincona sale 4, lot 5972

This specimen was lot 5972 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 165 CHF (about US$219 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "AFRICA SOUTH AFRICA Elizabeth II. 1952-1960 ½ Pound 1959. Proof." This type was minted in small numbers 1953-60 but as all are in collector's hands, it obtains little premium.

Recorded mintage: 500 plus 630 proofs.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .117 troy oz AGW, this specimen 4,03 g.
