This specimen was lot 75377 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 1/2 Sovereign, 1960. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-65. Stunningly attractive, this amazing proof specimen reflects light with nearly as little effort as a mirror, resulting in a wholesome and handsome luster." This type was minted in small numbers 1953-60 but as all are in collector's hands, it obtains little premium. This example realized less than one-fifth of the catalog value.
