After independence in 1965, Singapore introduced its own coinage. The twenty cents was struck to the module of a British shilling (5.65 g, 23.6 mm diameter). The weight was reduced to 4.5 g in 1985 and the national arms modified slightly in 1992, creating this type, which was struck 1992-2013 at the Singapore mint. Some dates, such as 1992, 1994-95, 2005, 2008 and 2013, are available only in the collector sets. The proofs were struck in silver (KM 101a).
Recorded mintage: 24,998,000 plus 15,000 sterling silver proofs.
Specification: 4.5 g, copper-nickel, 21.36 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 101.
