Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg 1611 thaler Dav-7715
This specimen was lot 2424 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,425 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Schlesien-Liegnitz-Brieg, Herzogtum. Johann Christian und Georg Rudolf, 1602-1621 Taler 1611. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, John Christian and George Rudolph, 1602-21, thaler of 1611. Very fine.)"
Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. This type, listed for 1611 only, is rare like all the thalers of this locality. The coinage ceased when the last of the local dukes died in 1675.
