Sincona sale 33, lot 2423

This specimen was lot 2423 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$14,245 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Schlesien-Liegnitz-Brieg, Herzogtum. Johann Christian und Georg Rudolf, 1602-1621 4 Dukaten 1611. Reichenstein. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, John Christian and George Rudolph, 1602-21, four ducats of 1611, Reichenstein mint. Rare, Good very fine.)"

This type is noted as struck using half thaler dies. Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland.
