SB125-37466r.jpg

The first specimen was lot 46033 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Bodle (Turner or 2 Pence), 1692. Edinburgh Mint. William II & Mary II. NGC F-15 Brown. Smooth and glossy with good surfaces. Chocolate brown patina reveals blue and golden iridescence on the high points. Superior for the type. From the Loch Ness Collection." The second specimen was lot 37466 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[2] noted, "SCOTLAND. Bodle, 1692. Edinburgh Mint. William and Mary. PCGS VF-30. From the Richard August Collection." After the Restoration, bodles (tuppence, shown here) and bawbees (sixpence) were struck in Scotland in copper. The Scottish sixpence was equal to an English half penny while the copper tuppence or bodle did not have an exact equivalent. This type was struck 1691-94 and is very scarce in nice condition. The denomination was last struck in 1697.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3 g, copper, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-5674; KM-130.
