Scotland 1687 10 shillings
This specimen was lot 41544 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $5,520. The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCOTLAND. 10 Shillings, 1687. Edinburgh Mint. James VII. NGC MS-62. A visually impressive piece with deep cabinet tone and intense luster throughout. Vibrant gold and powder-blue iridescence glows from the protected areas. Struck from worn dies but overall sharp despite an area of adjustment marks between the date. Well centered and free of notable abrasions. EXTREMELY RARE at this level of preservation and pedigreed to the Manville Collection. From the Loch Ness Collection. Ex: Manville Collection (Dix Noonan Webb - 9/2015) Lot # 127. Ex: Bt. Manfra Tordella & Brookes (12/1993)."
This type was struck 1687-88 and was roughly worth an English shilling. Similar ten shillings were struck to this module until 1699.
