Scotland 1687 40 shillings
This specimen was lot 33289 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 40 Shillings, 1687 Year TERTIO. Edinburgh Mint. James VII. PCGS EF-40. Variety with "LACESSIET" on edge. Featuring a RARE edge variant, this lightly circulated specimen exhibits some scattered minor marks upon the portrait, but also conveys some alluring iridescence and subtle brilliance emanating from the protected areas. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1687-88 and was worth two Scottish pounds or four English shillings.
