Sincona auction 98, lot 4406

This specimen was lot 4406 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,161 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schwyz, 2 Rappen 1811, Aarau. Variante mit geschweiftem Wappen. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung. FDC. Überprägungsspuren. (Switzerland, Schwyz, two rappen of 1811, Aarau mint, variety with curved arms. Extremely rare condition, Mint State, Signs of overstrike.)"

Two rappen with curved arms (KM 61, struck 1811-13) and pointed arms (KM 62, struck until 1846) were both struck in 1811. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. The Swiss confederation was reorganized in 1848 and the cantonal issues terminated.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.2-1.24 g, billon, 16.8-18 mm diameter, this specimen 1.42 g.

Catalog reference: KM 56, D.T. 86a, HMZ 2-810c.
