Sincona auction 98, lot 4411

The first specimen was lot 4410 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$174 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schwyz, 2 Rappen 1812, Aarau. Variante mit geschweiftem Wappen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, Schwyz, two rappen of 1812, Aarau mint. Variety with curved arms. Rare in this condition, About Extremely Fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 4411 in the same sale, where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$617 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schwyz, 2 Rappen 1812, Aarau. Variante mit spitzem Wappen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, Schwyz, two rappen of 1812, Aarau mint. Variety with pointed arms. Rare in this condition, About Uncirculated.)"

The curved arms type was struck 1811-13, the pointed arms type was struck 1811-15, 1842-46 and is the more common. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. The Swiss confederation was reorganized in 1848 and the cantonal issues terminated.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
