Sincona auction 98, lot 4413

This specimen was lot 4413 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$145 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schwyz, Angster 1813, Aarau. Sehr selten. Schön-sehr schön. Kleines Zainende. (Switzerland, Schwyz, angster of 1813, Aarau mint. Very rare, Fine-Very Fine, Minor edge clip.)"

This type, the lowest copper denomination, was struck 1810-16, 1821, 1827, 1838, 1843-46. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. The Swiss confederation was reorganized in 1848 and the cantonal issues terminated. Numista states 200 angster made a franc.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.

Specification: 0.6 g, copper, 14 mm diameter, this specimen 0.61 g.
