Schwarzburg 1623 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1101 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$727 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Schwarzburg, Gemeinschaftsprägungen, 1601-1623. 1/2 Taler 1623, Gehren. Münzmeister Hans Heinrich Otte. Selten. Sehr schön. Kleine Kratzer. (Germany, Schwarzburg, joint issue, 1601-23, half thaler of 1623, Gehren mint. Rare, Very fine, Small scratches.)"
This was a joint issue of Günther XLII, Anton Heinrich, Johann Günther II and Christian Günther I. This type is recorded in the SCWC as joint coinage for all the divisions of Schwarzburg, including -Sondershausen, -Rudolstadt and -Arnstadt. All are scarce to rare.
