Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt 1843 gulden
This specimen was lot 148 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €200 (about US$282 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Gulden 1843, Silver, FRIEDRICH GUNTHER 1807-1867, SCHWARZBURG-RUDOLSTADT Head right. Rev. value and date within wreath. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS AU55." The gulden was equal to two-thirds of a reichs thaler in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries but shrank to four-sevenths of a union thaler after the Napoleonic Wars. This coin is only slightly larger than a French two francs. It was struck at Munich 1841-43 and 1846. It was accompanied by a half gulden (KM 168).
