Schaumburg-Pinneberg (16)20 1/24 thaler
This specimen was lot 11569 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €65 (about US$68). The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. 1/24 Taler, (1)620. Schaumburg-Holstein-Pinneberg. Ernst III. NGC MS-61. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." Schaumburg proper is adjacent to Lippe in lower Saxony. The county of Schaumburg-Pinneberg is on the north bank of the Elbe, between Hamburg and Gluckstadt. Erected in the fourteenth century, the line fell extinct in 1640 and the county was annexed by the king of Denmark as duke of Holstein. This is a kipper issue from the beginning of the Thirty Years War, which explains its light weight.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 0.87 g, billon, 17 mm diameter, this specimen 0.87 g.
Catalog reference: KM-99; Weinmeister-289; Bruun-14900.
