Steve Album sale 51, lot 3005

This specimen was lot 3005 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "STOLBERG-STOLBERG: Wolfgang Georg, 1612-1631, AR groschen (1/24 thaler), Wernigerode, 1620, initials IK, two-year type, PCGS graded AU58." The regular groschen was around 1.5 g and struck from good silver. This is the kipper version of 1620-21 and weighed only 0.5-0.8 g and was likely debased. The "Z4" in the orb on the reverse indicates the value.

Specifications: 0.9 g, billon, 16 mm diameter, this specimen 1.26 g.
