Stolberg in 1789, with Wernigerode to the northwest near Halberstadt

This specimen was lot 446 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$970 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Stolberg-Stolberg, Grafschaft. Wolfgang Georg, 1615-1631. Taler 1624. Dreifach behelmtes Wappen. Rv. Hirsch nach links. Fast vorzüglich." (County of Stolberg-Stolberg, Wolfgang Georg, 1615-31, thaler of 1624. Obverse: triple-helmeted arms; reverse: stag facing left. Nice Extremely Fine.)

This type, issued 1624-26, is one of the few affordable issues from this locale.
