Schaumburg-Lippe 1858-A 2 pfennig
This specimen was part of lot 40265 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), which sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Schaumburg-Lippe. Partial Copper Proof Set, 1858-A. PCGS PROOF-64 RD, all Gold Shield. 3 pieces in lot. KM-39, 40 and 42. Set includes Pfennig, 2 Pfennig and 4 Pfennig. SCARCE in Proof condition. All with reflective fields, full mint red, and lightly toned. A perfectly matched beautiful set." The tiny state of Schaumburg-Lippe issued coins only sporadically but in 1858 issued a set comprising a one pfennig (KM 39), a two pfennig (KM 40, shown here), a three pfennig (KM 41), a four pfennig (KM 42), a half silber groschen (KM 43), a one silber groschen (KM 44) and a 2½ silbergroschen (KM 45).
