Schaffhausen 1633 dicken

Sincona sale 102, lot 5443

This specimen was lot 5443 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$980 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Schaffhausen. Dicken 1633, Schaffhausen. Vorzüglich. (Switzerland, Schaffhausen, dicken of 1633, Schaffhausen mint. Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1626-27, 1631-35. It was also struck in klippe format in 1633 (KM 45). The city arms depict an ibex leaping, sometimes by itself or out of a castle window (as here). One dicken was 24 kreuzer.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce; the 1626-27 are very rare.

Specification: 8.80 g, silver, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 8.62 g.
