Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 22645
Saxony SB120-22645r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22645 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $62. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Neu-Groschen (10 Pfennig), 1865-B. Dresden Mint. Johann. NGC MS-65. Delicately toned with beautifully preserved surfaces." This type was struck 1863-67. Like most German minors before unification, it is fairly common in low grade but scarce in nice condition. The low silver content makes used specimens look ugly. The denomination was terminated in 1873 because of the coinage reform.

Recorded mintage: 557,000.

Specification: 2.12 g, 0.230 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 1219.
