This specimen was lot 42958 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1865-B. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Mining taler. Well struck with appealing peripheral toning." This coin was issued for King Johann (r. 1854-73), not Friedrich August II. In addition to the regular thalers issued with the royal arms on the reverse, Saxony minted a series of mining thalers saluting the toil of the silver miners. This type was struck 1861-67 and is fairly common.
