Saxony 1867-B thaler Dav-895
This specimen was lot 3852 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, ab 1806 Königreich Albertiner. Friedrich August II. 1836-1854. Vereinstaler 1867. Kl. Kr. Vorzüglich. (Kingdom of Saxony, Frederick August II, 1836-54, thaler of 1867, cleaned, extremely fine.)"
This coin was issued for King Johann (r. 1854-73), not Friedrich August II. In addition to the regular thalers issued with the royal arms on the reverse, Saxony minted a series of mining thalers saluting the toil of the silver miners (see Dav-896). This type was struck 1861-71 and is common.
