Saxony 1867-B thaler Dav-896
This specimen was lot 4457 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 220 CHF (about US$293 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, ab 1806 Königreich Albertiner Johann, 1854-1873. Ausbeutevereinstaler 1867. Mmz. B. Fast FDC. (Kingdom of Saxony, John I, 1854-73, mining thaler of 1867, mintmark B. Nice uncirculated)."
In addition to the regular thalers (see Dav-895) issued with the royal arms on the reverse, Saxony minted a series of mining thalers saluting the toil of the silver miners. This type was struck 1861-67 and is fairly common.
