This specimen was lot 40570 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,469. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1831. PCGS MS-65. New Constitution. Very nicely toned, choice for this issue." Friedrich August II, regent for his uncle Anton since 1830, succeeded him in 1836.

Recorded mintage: 14,000 plus 19,000 mining thalers (Dav-868) and 697,000 regular thalers (Dav-867).

Specification: 28.03 g, 0.833 fine silver. The thaler was reduced to 22.27 g, 0.750 fine in 1839 and again to 18.52 g, 0.900 fine in 1857.
