Saxony 1801-IEC 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 1403 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €300 (about US$375 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE, Royaume, Friedrich August Ier (1806-1827), AR 2/3 Taler (Gulden), 1801IEC, Dresde. presque Superbe. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1763-1806, silver two-thirds thaler of 1801, Dresden mint. about Extremely Fine.)"
This gulden is listed for 1791-1806 and was the last issue of this denomination before Frederick Augustus was promoted to king. The denomination was last struck in 1829. It has the weight of a half thaler.
