This specimen was lot 2258 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$202 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum, ab 1806 Königreich, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827. Konventionstaler 1800, Dresden. Ausbeute- Münzzeichen IEC. Sehr schön-vorzüglich, Justierspuren, (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, convention thaler of 1800, Dresden mint, for the mines. Very fine-extremely fine. Adjustment marks.)"

The elector of Saxony consistently stood as an ally of Napoleon during his invasions of Germany, for which he was promoted to king in 1806. After Napoleon's fall, Saxony was punished by having half her territory annexed to Prussia but Frederick Augustus kept his new title. This type is listed for 1794-1806 and is accompanied by a regular thaler (Dav-2701). The post-1800 issues are catalogued as Dav-851.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 27.91 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1036, Kahnt 412, Dav-2703.
