This specimen was lot 44443 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2/3 Taler, 1774-EDC. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August III. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. An evenly worn and pleasing coin, with luster remaining in the protected areas, and granular gray to dark gray toning." This type was struck 1768-88 and is common. Although marked "⅔", it was worth only half a thaler. Friedrich August III did not pursue the Polish adventures of his ancestors and prosperity began to return to Saxony.
