Sincona sale 90, lot 1087

This specimen was lot 1087 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum, Friedrich August II. 1733-1763. Dukat 1753, Dresden. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1733-63, ducat of 1753, Dresden mint. Rare, About very fine.)"

This type was struck 1735-63 almost without interruption yet is rare. Another ducat (KM 916/Fr-2854) was struck in 1753 for the Vicariat. In 1753, the army of Frederick the Great had occupied most of Saxony, including Dresden, forcing the elector to retreat to Leipzig.
