This specimen was lot 70589 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 1/2 Taler, 1637. Dresden Mint. Johann Georg I. NGC MS-61. A singular 1/2 Taler of Saxony. Fully mint state with a captivating portrait of the Duke. This 1/2 Taler type is seldom seen in any grade, with mint state examples hardly ever found for sale. 1637 is a seldom offered date as well." This type was struck 1630-56 and is expensive in nice condition despite the many years of production.
