Sincona sale 23, lot 2216

This specimen was lot 2216 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum, Johann Georg I. 1615-1656 Doppeldukat 1637. Dresden Münzmeisterzeichen SD (Sebald Dierleber, Münzmeister in Dresden 1635-1640). Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George I (1615-56), double ducat of 1637, Dresden mint with mintmaster's initials SD for Sebald Dierleber. Very rare date, extremely fine.)"

This type was issued annually 1628-54 yet despite the many dates noted, it is scarce.
