Saxony 1623(swan) thaler Dav-7601
This specimen was lot 20370 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1623. Johan Georg I. NGC MS-63. Tone free with stunning, ice-white brilliance in the fields and remarkably sharp detail throughout the central designs. Presently tied with one other example for the finest graded of the date at NGC and as such, a wonderful candidate for the collector endeavoring to assemble a collection of elite German Talers. From the Estate of a Western Gentleman. Ex. Hesselgesser Collection (Goldberg - 5/2006) lot #2177." This type is listed for 1620-38 and is slightly scarcer than the preceding type (Dav-7591). This specimen seems to lack the "HvR" mintmaster's initials listed for this date.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
