This specimen was lot 74616 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $244. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1586-HB. Dresden Mint. Christian I. EF Details--Mount Removed, Tooled. From the Greyhound Collection." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This type was struck 1586-91. A double thaler also exists.
