Sincona sale 69, lot 254

This specimen was lot 254 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum, ab 1806 Königreich | Albertiner. August, 1553-1586. Taler 1586 HB, Dresden. Auf seinen Tod. Sehr schön. Henkelspur und kleine Kratzer. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, August I, 1553-86, thaler of 1586, Dresden mint, on his death. Very fine, Mount mark and small scratches.)"

This type was struck 1586 only to mark the elector's death. The year 1586 also saw Dav-9798 (struck 1567-86) and Dav-9804A (klippe) as well as a double thaler (Dav-9803) and triple thaler (Dav-A9803).
