Saxony (1706) ducat Fr-2776
This specimen was lot 2102 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August I. 1694-1733 (August der Starke). Dukat o. J. Spieljeton aus der Zeit der Gräfin Cosel. Zwei schnäbelnde Tauben//Hahn tritt Henne. GOLD. Kl. Randfehler, sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I (Augustus the Strong), 1694-1733, undated ducat for the gaming table. Obverse: two pigeons; reverse: a cock mounts a hen. Rim nicks, very fine.)"
This rather salacious design is unlisted in the SCWC. It doubtless appealed to the elector's earthy sense of humor.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,44 g.
