Künker sale 293, lot 1289

This specimen was lot 1289 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,561 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-WEIMAR, HERZOGTUM, Wilhelm, 1640-1662. Reichstaler 1658, Weimar, auf die Einweihung der neuen Schloßkirche. Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weimar, William, 1640-62, thaler of 1658, Weimar mint, on the dedication of the new palace church. Attractive example with handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"

When Saxe-Middle-Weimar lapsed in 1640, a new Saxe-Weimar was created which lasted until World War One. When Saxe-Eisenach lapsed in 1741, it was added and the new polity was called Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.
